Our part, and its limits
Quoting or binding coverage is not something we do, and we do not sell policies. An insurance agency receives your request. One specific agency handles each call or request, not a group of companies, and that agency identifies itself when contacting you. We do not ask follow-up questions, price the policy or name the insurer that would write it; that agency does.
Every request goes to the same agency. Before you agree to any policy, ask the agent for a state license number and their name. We will let you know which agency received your request if you email quotes@boatinsurancecompare.com.
Payment for our work
For quote requests and calls sent to the agency, it pays Boat Insurance Compare. We receive no payment from any insurer. This payment changes none of the price ranges or tables, and it does not decide the order insurers appear in: what you see in the comparison table is each insurer's own published detail on its boat policies.
How we calculate price ranges
Published figures are where the home page range begins: Chubb's guide that most owners spend about 1% to 5% of what the boat is worth each year, the dollar ranges Chubb gives for small boats and for sailboats and bigger boats, and Progressive's average yearly policy across its low, medium and high cost states. Source of state facts
Every state page draws on the boating agency, statutes and insurance department of that state, with a link placed beside every rule. We show a rule only when an official source states it; see the boat insurance law table for the full law in every state.
