An estimate, not a quote. How we work it out

You won't find one set price from Travelers, since what you pay comes from a quote based on your specific boat. Two details shape that quote first: the length of your boat and the state where you keep it. Boats kept in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, or Louisiana cannot get a quote from Travelers.
Watercraft that Travelers covers
On its site, Travelers lists these watercraft types:
- Pontoons
- Jet skis and other personal watercraft
- Fishing boats with a center console
- Classic and antique craft
- Sailboats
- Yachts
The boat's location counts just as much as what kind it is. Boats kept in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, or Louisiana can't get a quote from Travelers.
Travelers yacht insurance
Travelers treats a watercraft of 27 feet or longer as a yacht; anything shorter counts as a boat. That length matters since it affects how you get your quote and what the policy includes. You can't get a yacht quote on the website. A yacht quote is handled by an independent agent, meaning an agent who sells policies from several different insurers rather than just one.
With a yacht policy, a dinghy or tender is automatically included if it's up to 16 feet long and has a motor of 50 horsepower or less. The tender is that small boat you use to go between your yacht and the shore.
There's also a lay-up discount from Travelers for the months your yacht sits in storage.
| Boat | Yacht | |
|---|---|---|
| Vessel length | Less than 27 feet | 27 feet and up |
| Ways to get a quote | On the website, with a Travelers rep, or via an independent agent | Only through an independent agent |
| Small dinghy or tender | Not stated | Included up to 16 feet and 50 horsepower |
| Storage lay-up discount | Not stated | Offered |
Base policy coverage
Here's what comes with the base policy:
- Uninsured and underinsured boater protection, which steps in when the person who hits your boat carries little or no insurance of their own
- Coverage for personal belongings
- Medical payment coverage
- Reimbursement for towing costs
- Liability protection for fuel spills
With hurricane haul-out, Travelers splits the expense of relocating your boat if a watch or warning for a tropical storm or hurricane falls within 50 miles.
Optional on-Water towing
TravAssist Boatside Premier is an add-on that gives you on-water towing and assistance. You pick it as an extra, and it's different from the towing reimbursement the standard policy already has.
How your boat is valued: agreed or actual cash value
If you qualify, you decide how your boat gets valued. Agreed value means you and Travelers fix the boat's worth at the start of the policy. Actual cash value means any payout matches what the boat is worth when the loss happens, once age and wear are factored in.
Discounts Travelers offers
- Quoting early
- Paying in full (not offered in California)
- Staying loss-free
- Insuring more than one vessel
- Boating education
- Bundling policies
- Lay-up for yachts
