What does GEICO boat insurance cost?
GEICO's guide puts the typical yearly cost of boat insurance between $300 and $650. That number reflects the whole industry rather than one company. It is not a rate GEICO has committed to for any particular boat, so the quote you receive could come in higher or lower.
How the policy values your boat also plays a part in what you pay. GEICO gives you two options, and they pay out differently should the boat be written off entirely.
What boats like yours cost to insure, across insurers
| Boat worth about | Pontoon, bass or ski boat | Sailboat | Jet ski |

| $10,000 to $25,000 | $300 to $800 | $500 to $880 | $180 to $500 |
| $25,000 to $50,000 | $380 to $800 | $500 to $1,500 | Few are worth this much |
| $50,000 to $100,000 | $750 to $1,130 | $750 to $1,500 | Few are worth this much |

Agreed value or actual cash value?
With agreed hull value, you and the insurer fix a set amount for the boat at the start of the policy. Should the boat become a total loss, that set amount is the payout.
Actual cash value works differently: the payout reflects what the boat is worth on the market when the loss happens, once age and wear have pulled that worth down. GEICO explains both choices in its guide to pricing.
| Basis for valuing the boat | What is paid if the boat is written off |
|---|---|
| Agreed hull value | The amount settled on when the policy begins |
| Actual cash value | What the boat is worth on the market, less depreciation |
Getting a GEICO boat insurance quote
Start a quote on GEICO's site and you will be sent over to the BoatUS website to complete it. You can also get a quote from GEICO by phone. The reason is that GEICO Marine Insurance Company underwrites these policies. Underwriting means that company carries the risk and pays out claims, while BoatUS takes care of much of the service.
It is worth checking that your boat is eligible before you begin:
- Check the length, by measuring or looking it up. GEICO does not insure boats over 50 feet.
- Consider what the boat is worth. Anything valued over $2,500,000 will not be accepted.
- Look at the kind of craft you have. Airboats, hovercraft, amphibious land boats, and houseboats without motors cannot be covered.
- Choose between agreed hull value and actual cash value, because this choice feeds into your quote.
What a GEICO boat policy usually covers
A number of coverages are listed by GEICO as standard for its boat policies:
- Cover for the boat itself, on either an agreed hull value or actual cash value basis
- Liability for fuel spills
- Payments towards medical costs
- Salvage work and removal of the wreck
- Protection if an uninsured boater causes damage
- Replacement cover for new boats
Among the optional extras is on-water towing through BoatUS, with help available 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Boat equipment coverage is another add-on, and it can protect GPS units, navigation equipment, stereos, fishing gear, and even mobile phones.
Discounts and the disappearing deductible
Two discounts are on offer from GEICO for boat owners. Holding a GEICO auto policy already could bring your price down, and completing a boat safety course could do the same.
A deductible is the share of a claim that comes out of your own pocket before the insurance covers the remainder. The Disappearing Deductible lets that sum shrink for every year you spend claim-free.
GEICO boat insurance review
For financial strength, AM Best affirmed the A++ (Superior) rating of GEICO members on April 16, 2026, and GEICO Marine Insurance Company is part of that group. The rating reflects the company's ability to pay claims.
For service, GEICO points to round-the-clock claims handling and towing. Because of the BoatUS partnership, much of what you do, from getting a quote to making a claim, happens through BoatUS instead of GEICO's main website.
What matters most to weigh up is the limits. Boats past 50 feet, boats valued past $2,500,000, and some craft like airboats and houseboats with no motor sit outside what GEICO will cover. A boat that fits inside those limits gets a broad set of standard coverages, with towing and equipment cover available as add-ons.
Common questions
Is GEICO Marine the same as GEICO boat insurance?
It is. The GEICO company behind its boat policies is GEICO Marine Insurance Company, and it works alongside BoatUS.
How do you report a GEICO boat insurance claim?
There are three ways to report a claim: the BoatUS app, the website, or a phone call. Claims handling runs around the clock, GEICO says.
Is there an app for GEICO boat insurance?
GEICO directs boat policyholders to the BoatUS app, which also lets you make a claim.
How does GEICO stack up against Progressive for boat insurance?
What we know here relates to GEICO's policy alone. The clearest way to spot any price difference is to compare quotes for the same boat, the same value basis, and the same extras.
